A man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison following a guilty plea related to the hit-and-run death of Fort Bend County Deputy Kenneth Lewis earlier this year. This tragic incident unfolded when Deputy Lewis, who was off-duty but in uniform, stopped to assist individuals involved in a separate accident.
Dennis Arguello-Acosta entered a guilty plea for the charge of Failure to Stop and Render Aid after the fatal incident that occurred in February. Deputy Lewis succumbed to his injuries two days after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
On the night of the accident, around 3:40 a.m., Deputy Lewis was providing aid when a third vehicle collided with him. The driver of that vehicle did not stop to help. In March, the Department of Homeland Security announced Arguello-Acosta’s arrest, which followed a tip received by the FBI and other law enforcement agencies.
Arguello-Acosta was taken into custody by ICE after the investigation led authorities to him. This case serves as a somber reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement officers, even when they are off duty and trying to help others.
