Search Warrant Executed at Bacliff Home of Texas Killing Fields Suspect James Dolphs Elmore Jr.

Authorities executed a search warrant at the Bacliff residence of James Dolphs Elmore Jr. on Thursday morning, as he faces charges related to the deaths of two victims linked to the notorious “Texas Killing Fields” case.

The search warrant affidavit revealed that investigators sought to employ ground penetrating radar to explore the property for potential human remains. Notably, Elmore had previously informed law enforcement that he suspected his alleged accomplice, Clyde Hedrick, had buried a body on the site when it was under Hedrick’s ownership.

As the investigation unfolded, the precise nature of any evidence discovered during the search remains unclear.

Earlier this month, the district attorney’s office announced Elmore’s indictment in connection with the murders of Audrey Lee Cook, aged 30, and Laura Miller, aged 16. He faces charges of tampering with evidence and manslaughter in relation to Miller’s death, as well as tampering with evidence concerning Cook’s case. His bond has been set at an imposing $3 million.

The backdrop of this investigation reveals a tragic history. Between 1984 and 1991, the bodies of Cook, Miller, Heidi Fye, and Donna Gonsoulin Prudhomme were discovered in a field near Calder Road in League City. The case has heavily centered on Clyde Hedrick, who was recently targeted for grand jury indictments regarding the four Calder Road victims. However, Hedrick will not stand trial, having taken his own life shortly before the case was set to be presented to a grand jury.

Despite Hedrick’s passing, the prosecution against Elmore continues, propelled by extensive forensic results, thousands of investigative hours, and Elmore’s prior statements. District Attorney Kenneth Cusick noted that Elmore and Hedrick had a long-standing friendship, with Elmore allegedly providing Hedrick with a vial of cocaine intended for Miller.

The “Texas Killing Fields” refers to a broader area along the I-45 corridor, where over 30 female victims have been discovered over the years. It is important to note that these cases are not all attributed to a single perpetrator. The Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, in collaboration with local law enforcement, is renewing its commitment to seeking justice for the victims of these heinous crimes.
