KATY, Texas – A woman has tragically lost her life following a confrontation in a quiet Katy neighborhood where both she and a man allegedly brandished firearms.
The incident unfolded on Rusty Ridge Lane, close to North Fry Road and FM 529, as confirmed by Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. It occurred early Wednesday afternoon when a deputy was en route to assist a woman who reported a bullet found on her car.
During this time, multiple calls began to flood in regarding a shooting in the vicinity. The deputy eventually arrived at the scene of the incident. Prior to the shooting, a man was towing a work trailer and had pulled his vehicle aside to allow the woman to pass. Reports indicate that the woman exited her vehicle and confronted the man.
Following a brief exchange of words, both parties drew their weapons, resulting in the man shooting the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene. After the shooting, the man contacted emergency services and is reportedly cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Sheriff Gonzalez mentioned that two children, estimated to be around eight and four years old, as well as a dog, were present in the woman’s vehicle at the time of the incident. Fortunately, they were unharmed, although they may have witnessed the tragic event. It is believed that the woman was their mother, and local deputies and neighbors are currently looking after the children as the investigation proceeds.
As of now, the identities of those involved have not been disclosed. Officials have confirmed that the woman was 32 years old, and initial assessments suggest that she and the man were unfamiliar with each other prior to this encounter. It is also suspected that the woman who reported the bullet on her car is the same individual involved in the shooting, though this has yet to be verified.
Detectives are actively continuing their investigation, and any potential charges will be determined based on the findings.
