The City of Taylor is currently facing significant community opposition regarding a proposed data center, which is set to involve an investment of $1 billion.
Residents have united under the “Halt Taylor Data Center Coalition,” which is actively pursuing a petition aimed at the city council to prevent the establishment of new data centers within city limits. The coalition argues that the designated land was originally intended for a local park.
During a meeting scheduled for July 9, the Taylor City Council will address this citizen-led ordinance for the first time since its submission. The proposed ordinance seeks a complete moratorium on new data center projects until the city can develop a specific zoning district that enforces stringent regulations on water usage, noise levels, and required buffers around residential neighborhoods.
City officials, however, contend that the data center could yield approximately $30 million in revenue, which would help reduce property taxes and improve local infrastructure, including roads.
The city council meeting is set to begin at 6 p.m. at Taylor City Hall, where a substantial turnout of concerned residents is anticipated.
