AUSTIN, Texas – The early voting period for the Texas primary elections is set to commence next week on Tuesday, February 17. As this critical date approaches, two prominent political figures in Texas have shared their insights regarding the shifting momentum and messaging surrounding the midterm primary races.
Recently, the Texas Democratic Party celebrated a significant victory in the Fort Worth area, where a state senate seat transitioned from Republican to Democratic control. Kendall Scudder, the Chairman of the Texas Democratic Party, believes this win reflects a notable change in the sentiment of Texas voters.
“In Senate District 9, we outperformed expectations by 31 points, particularly in areas with predominantly Hispanic and Latino communities. Many Hispanic and Latino voters, alongside others, initially gave Donald Trump a chance, hoping for improvement. However, over the past year, they have come to realize they were misled,” Scudder stated.
On the other hand, Texas GOP Chairman Abraham George attributed the loss in the Senate District 9 Special Election to a lack of turnout among local Republican voters. He pointed out that a revote for the seat will take place during the November General Election and offered a different perspective on Hispanic voter sentiments.
“I recently attended a town hall in South Texas where the primary concern voiced was not related to immigration enforcement but rather property taxes. Residents were eager to understand what solutions we would propose for property tax issues. During my speech, I anticipated some negative sentiments towards Republicans, but attendees expressed their support for legal immigration while also advocating for the deportation of illegal immigrants,” George explained.
As early voting approaches, Texas residents are encouraged to participate in the electoral process starting on February 17. The Battleground Texas segment will be broadcast live at 3 p.m. from Monday to Friday on FOX Local, with additional coverage available on FOX 7’s social media platforms.
