A funeral procession is set to take place on Thursday morning for the late Fort Bend County Deputy Kenneth Lewis, anticipated to cause traffic disruptions on highways in the Katy area.
The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office has announced that the procession will begin at 8 a.m., departing from Schmidt’s Funeral Home and making its way to Second Baptist Church — West Campus. The route will include traveling north on SH-99 and then east along the Katy Freeway.
Drivers in the vicinity are urged to prepare for potential delays and to allow the procession to pass safely.
Deputy Kenneth Lewis tragically lost his life following a hit-and-run incident that occurred late last month in west Houston. The incident took place on the West Katy Freeway near North Eldridge Parkway.
On February 21, shortly before 4 a.m., Deputy Lewis, while off-duty but still in uniform, stopped to assist individuals involved in a crash. While he was helping, another vehicle struck him and fled the scene. He was pronounced dead two days later.
Authorities describe the suspect vehicle as a black or dark-colored Honda sedan, but no further information about the driver has been released.
In an effort to gather information, Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for tips leading to the identification and arrest of the hit-and-run driver.
