Lake Travis High School has been rocked by tragedy following the death of senior Odin Hensley, who passed away due to complications from a medical emergency that occurred during football practice. The Lake Travis Independent School District Superintendent, Curtis Null, confirmed the news in a heartfelt letter addressed to parents.
Odin was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit at Dell Children’s Hospital after the incident. The community is mourning the loss of a dedicated student-athlete who was well-known for his commitment to both football and wrestling. Teachers and coaches remembered him as a compassionate and determined individual, whose impact on his peers will be profoundly missed.
In his letter, Superintendent Null expressed deep sorrow, stating, “It is with profound sadness that we share that Lake Travis High School senior Odin Hensley has passed away as a result of complications from a medical emergency he experienced during football practice earlier this week.” He went on to highlight Odin’s long-standing relationship with the Lake Travis ISD, beginning at Lake Pointe Elementary School.
The letter reassured the community that counselors would be available at Lake Travis High School to support students, staff, and families dealing with this heartbreaking loss. Additional counselors have also been arranged to assist as needed. The school acknowledged the overwhelming support from the community for Odin’s family and the football team during this difficult time.
A vigil was held at Lake Hills Church, reflecting the community’s solidarity, and had to be relocated from the high school due to the large turnout. Odin was a lineman on the varsity football team, and it was during practice that he suffered a cardiac arrest, prompting the need for immediate medical assistance.
In response to the family’s needs, a GoFundMe page has been established to help provide support. The community continues to rally around Odin’s family, teammates, and friends, offering compassion and strength as they navigate this tragic loss.
