Tragic Highway 6 Shooting: Man Fatally Shot While Helping the Homeless

A tragic incident occurred in west Houston early Wednesday morning when a man, who was feeding homeless individuals, was shot and killed during a botched carjacking.

At approximately 2:18 a.m., officers from the Houston Police Department responded to a shooting report on Highway 6 South, close to George Bush Park. Upon arrival, they discovered a deceased man at the scene.

Witnesses indicated that the victim was actively providing food to the homeless when a suspect approached him and demanded money. The situation escalated dramatically when the assailant attempted to seize the victim’s vehicle at gunpoint.

In a bid to escape, the victim attempted to drive away but was shot by the suspect. Consequently, the vehicle crashed into a nearby fence, where it came to a halt. Emergency services pronounced the victim dead shortly thereafter, as noted by Lt. Wilkens.

Law enforcement officers on the scene were able to apprehend the suspect, who had fled on foot. The individual was subsequently taken to a local hospital to receive treatment for minor injuries sustained in the incident.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into this case, searching for additional information and details surrounding the incident.
