Wells Fargo Refunds Customer $1,000 After Reversing Decision in Computer Scam Incident

A couple from the Houston area experienced a troubling incident when they discovered that $1,000 had vanished from their Wells Fargo account, likely due to a computer scam. After initially facing denial from the bank regarding their claim, their fortunes changed following an inquiry.

Kenny Briener reported a bizarre occurrence when he noticed his laptop mouse moving on its own, prompting concerns that his computer had been compromised. This unsettling experience was compounded when his wife, Barbara, discovered a $1,000 withdrawal from her Wells Fargo account soon after.

The couple made numerous visits to three different bank branches, totaling five trips, seeking assistance in resolving the issue. However, they were informed that their case was still under investigation. Eventually, they received a letter from Wells Fargo denying their claim, asserting that they either authorized the withdrawal or allowed someone they knew to take the funds.

After probing into the situation, Wells Fargo conducted a further review, which led to a reversal of their earlier decision. The bank refunded the couple the full amount of $1,000 after additional information came to light.

In a statement, a Wells Fargo representative expressed satisfaction with the resolution of the matter, highlighting the thorough review process that led to the refund. While specific details could not be divulged for privacy reasons, the representative affirmed that the bank was pleased to assist their customer.
