Teen Charged with Animal Cruelty After Injured Puppy Discovered with Broken Bones in Humble Home

An 18-year-old man has been charged with felony animal cruelty following the rescue of a puppy with multiple broken bones from a residence in Humble, Texas. The Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office reported that the mixed-breed puppy, named Nyla, was discovered with injuries suggesting prolonged mistreatment.

The constable’s office revealed that Nyla, believed to be approximately three months old, exhibited multiple broken bones in varying stages of healing. This condition is indicative of ongoing abuse, raising serious concerns about her treatment. Currently, Nyla is under the care of the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), where she is recovering from her injuries.

In addition to Nyla, an adult dog was also rescued from the same home. This dog was found with a broken rib and an object resembling a pellet lodged in its skin. Like Nyla, this adult dog is receiving care from the Houston SPCA.

Constable Alan Rosen expressed his dismay at the situation, stating, “This should have never happened. No dog should ever be treated like this.” The accused, McKinley Bass, has been charged with third-degree felony cruelty to a non-livestock animal, according to court documents.

Currently, Bass has been released on a $12,000 bond. If convicted, he faces potential imprisonment ranging from two to ten years, along with a fine that could reach up to $10,000.

Authorities are urging the public to report any suspected cases of animal cruelty. Individuals can contact the Houston SPCA hotline at 713-869-7722 or utilize the organization’s online animal cruelty reporting system. The Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office Animal Cruelty Unit is responsible for enforcing animal cruelty laws throughout the county.
