A Mansfield Fire Department engine was involved in a collision early Sunday morning while serving as a protective barrier at the scene of a prior accident on southbound State Highway 360.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. when Engine 5 was strategically positioned to block traffic and safeguard first responders who were clearing the earlier wreck.
Three crew members were aboard the fire engine during the incident. Fortunately, they were all wearing seat belts and reported no injuries following the crash.
Officials underscored the importance of such blocking measures, which are crucial for ensuring the safety of emergency personnel as they attend to patients and work to prevent further accidents. The authorities took this opportunity to remind drivers to reduce their speed, safely move over when possible, eliminate distractions, and adhere to instructions from emergency responders when approaching active roadside scenes.
