A Texas appeals court has overturned the deadly conduct conviction of former Austin police officer Christopher Taylor. This decision comes in relation to the fatal shooting of Dr. Mauris DeSilva that occurred in 2019.
The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) has reinstated Taylor’s peace officer license following this acquittal. The court’s ruling to overturn his conviction was made just before the New Year, marking a significant change in Taylor’s legal status.
In October 2024, a jury found Taylor guilty after three days of deliberation. He was sentenced to two years in prison and was initially deemed ineligible for probation.
TCOLE confirmed to local news sources that the revocation of Taylor’s license was lifted upon receiving the certified court documents that indicated his acquittal. Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis acknowledged the decision, stating she would work with the City Attorney’s Office to determine the next steps.
