Houston police are currently investigating a series of burglaries at the 8181 Med Center Apartments located along Fannin Street, following reports of nine break-ins that have occurred over the past two months.
Residents of the apartment complex have expressed their concerns, believing they are being specifically targeted. This has led some tenants to consider relocating due to safety worries. Investigators have noted that the majority of the burglaries took place when the apartments were unoccupied, with suspects typically gaining entry through back doors.
One tenant shared images depicting damage to their door following a break-in, highlighting the distressing nature of the incidents. Several residents have reached out to bring attention to these burglaries, emphasizing the need for increased security measures.
According to police reports, the stolen items include valuables such as jewelry, gold, electronics, cash, and credit cards. Alarmingly, many of the break-ins showed little to no signs of forced entry, prompting residents to suspect that the burglars might be monitoring their routines and choosing to strike during the day when tenants are away.
Two tenants reported that they lost tens of thousands of dollars worth of gold in the thefts. While authorities continue to investigate, they have yet to determine if all the burglaries are linked, although several residents believe they may be connected.
In response to these incidents, police are advising tenants to take precautionary measures, which include:
- Installing surveillance cameras
- Leaving lights on during their absence
- Promptly reporting any suspicious activities
While the apartment complex is equipped with a gated entrance and has a security guard on-site, residents have pointed out the absence of surveillance cameras throughout the property. Many are now advocating for enhanced security measures to ensure their safety.
Attempts to obtain comments from the apartment management have so far gone unanswered.
