A Harris County judge has granted bond to Dequavia Denise Rogers, a 31-year-old repeat offender with an extensive criminal record, including 37 felony theft charges. Rogers, who had been evading law enforcement for months, was apprehended recently and faces numerous pending felonies while allegedly committing additional crimes across various counties.
Despite being on both parole and probation, and with 11 pending felony charges against her, Judge Nata Cornelio of the 351st Court set Rogers’ bond at $75,000. This decision has sparked significant backlash from crime prevention advocates, who argue that habitual offenders should face stricter consequences.
Andy Kahan from Crime Stoppers expressed concerns, stating, “You have to have consequences for habitual thieves. It’s not happening in Rogers’ case.” In October 2025, it was reported that Rogers had 13 felony convictions and was already on parole and probation at that time.
While on the run, Rogers reportedly accumulated four additional felony theft charges in Harris County, along with another theft charge in Montgomery County and one in Fort Bend County. Kahan noted that this happened while she was already under four probated sentences in Harris County.
With her total now reaching 37 felony theft charges, the situation has raised alarms about the adequacy of current legal penalties for repeat offenders. Lawmakers are expected to address the issue and consider enhancements to punishments for habitual thieves in the upcoming legislative session.
