A 20-year-old woman is currently hospitalized in stable condition following a shooting incident that occurred in a parking lot near the Gulf Freeway. The shooting took place when a local business owner discharged his firearm after investigating suspicious activity in the area, inadvertently striking the woman as her vehicle was leaving the scene.
The incident unfolded in the Greater Eastwood area of Houston, where authorities are working to unravel the details. According to Lieutenant Willkens of the Houston Police Department, the woman was a passenger in a car driven by a male when they parked at a business location across the Gulf Freeway. At the same time, a white SUV was also present in the parking lot.
Upon receiving reports of individuals loitering, a key holder for the business arrived to assess the situation. Upon his arrival, he heard what he believed to be gunfire and reacted by firing shots towards the vehicles. One of those shots penetrated the back window of the car, striking the woman in the neck while she was seated in the back.
After the shooting, the white SUV fled the scene and remains unaccounted for. The vehicle carrying the injured woman managed to drive across the Gulf Freeway, but soon after crashed on Lombardy Street. The key holder followed them to the crash site.
Both the woman and the male driver exited the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot through nearby backyards. Authorities later located the woman and transported her to a hospital, where she is recovering. The male driver, however, remains at large.
Police have confirmed that the key holder is cooperating with the investigation, but several questions remain unanswered. Notably, the identity of the male driver is still unknown, and law enforcement is working to determine whether the key holder was under fire when he arrived at the parking lot.
