Authorities in Montgomery County have successfully secured a scene following a reported active shooting incident in the New Caney area, where the suspect is now in custody.
According to the latest updates, the incident unfolded around 7:30 p.m. when the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office confirmed via social media that the scene had been contained. Residents are still being advised to avoid the area for safety reasons.
A press conference held after 9 p.m. provided further details about the situation. The shooting reportedly occurred at a residence near Nottingham Road, close to the intersections with Cambridge and Galaxy Boulevards.
Officials revealed that two individuals sustained injuries during the shooting. One of the victims has been identified as a 17-year-old male, while the identities of the other victim and witnesses remain undisclosed. Several individuals reported being shot at, but fortunately, none were hit.
The suspect, a 60-year-old man, surrendered to law enforcement approximately one hour after the initial report of the shooting. Investigators believe that a disturbance between the suspect and one of the victims, who was identified as his neighbor, may have precipitated the violent incident.
Upon searching the suspect’s home, police discovered two long firearms. As of 9 p.m. Saturday, the investigation and processing of the scene were still ongoing. Fortunately, no law enforcement personnel were injured during the confrontation.
Residents in the vicinity are urged to comply with instructions from law enforcement officials on-site, while those outside the area should refrain from approaching the scene.
