Alief Independent School District has reached a significant milestone with the grand opening of its first all-girls campus, The Young Women’s Leadership School (TYWLS). This momentous occasion took place on Thursday morning, marking a new chapter in local education.
The official ribbon-cutting ceremony for TYWLS celebrated the arrival of the school, which caters to sixth and seventh-grade students, affectionately referred to as “Diamonds.” The institution emphasizes the values of sisterhood, leadership, and STEM education. As the third all-girls public campus in the greater Houston area, TYWLS is dedicated to empowering young women through college preparation and entrepreneurial pursuits.
Located at 12501 High Star Drive, TYWLS welcomed its first cohort of students on August 12. School leaders, community members, and students gathered for an exclusive tour and the ceremonial ribbon cutting to commemorate this historic launch.
Under the guidance of Founding Principal Tamara Albury, TYWLS joins the ranks of the Young Women’s Preparatory Network, further enhancing educational opportunities for young women in the region.
At TYWLS, the students, known as “Diamonds,” embrace a unique identity. This nickname reflects the school’s creed, which likens the young women to diamonds—formed under pressure and polished through challenges.
One student expressed her excitement about the school year, stating, “I can’t wait to meet all my fellow ‘diamonds’—my friends, my sisters—and to enhance my learning experience here.” Another student added, “The fact that this school is entirely dedicated to our leadership is a significant opportunity, and I’m truly grateful for it.”
Students emphasized the importance of a supportive, single-gender environment, noting how it cultivates independent thinking and fosters strong connections. “This program is incredible for us women because we have a place where we can build sisterhood and leadership, understand each other, and grow together as diamonds,” one student remarked.

By merging a rigorous academic framework with a culture centered on sisterhood, Alief ISD aims to equip its “Diamonds” with the essential skills needed for success in higher education and beyond.
