Aqua Texas is facing scrutiny after a customer, Melinda Sperl, was reportedly charged for an astonishing 209,000 gallons of water used within just two days, resulting in a bill of $5,319.21. However, this massive charge has since been cleared without explanation.
Melinda, who regularly monitors her water bill, was taken aback to find her balance had dropped to zero after months of the exorbitant charge. While she is relieved not to owe the hefty amount anymore, she is perplexed by Aqua Texas’s lack of communication regarding the situation.
The water consumption attributed to Melinda is equivalent to filling a standard municipal water tower in a small city or the interior of 22 large school buses parked side by side. “I thought they were crazy. There’s no way. We don’t have a pool. We had nothing for it to be that high,” she expressed in disbelief.
Initially, Melinda suspected that a water main break behind her house might have caused the excessive usage, a situation that would fall under Aqua Texas’s responsibility. The company, however, attributed the high usage to a leak on her property. Given the volume of water involved, Melinda argued that such a leak would have been noticeable.
Aqua Texas has opted not to provide further specifics on Melinda’s account, citing customer privacy as the reason for their silence.
