Austin Police Launch Investigation into 2026's Eighth Homicide

The Austin Police Department is currently investigating its eighth homicide of the year following the discovery of two deceased individuals in a south Austin residence on Saturday morning.

Authorities received a call around 11:30 a.m. requesting a welfare check on a family member residing at Cannon Ridge Homes, a gated community located along Windrift Way. Upon their arrival, officers found a woman and a man, both in their 40s, dead inside the home. According to police reports, both victims exhibited signs of obvious trauma, suggesting a potential connection between them.

Jeremy Fisher, a public information officer with the Austin Police Department, stated that they are still working to ascertain the exact nature of the relationship between the two deceased individuals. He confirmed that there is currently no threat to the public, emphasizing that the incident is believed to be isolated.

Residents expressed their concerns following the incident. Fil Luna, a neighbor living across the street, noted the unsettling nature of such an event occurring in their vicinity. He recounted witnessing a significant police presence, mentioning that several police cars arrived in the neighborhood, with approximately a dozen vehicles responding to the scene during the investigation.

As the investigation continues, the Austin Police Department is working diligently to gather more information regarding this case.
