Baytown police are currently investigating an apparent murder-suicide that occurred on Friday afternoon at a residence in the area.
Authorities responded to a report from a third party who had been contacted by a man at the home located on Southwood Drive and Merrilane Street. According to police, the man admitted to shooting his wife and was contemplating taking his own life.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman, estimated to be around 30 years old, near the front door of the house suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Inside the home, officers also found a man, believed to be approximately 50 years old, who had sustained a gunshot injury. Life-saving measures were administered, but he too was pronounced dead at the location.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the man and woman were in a romantic relationship. Authorities confirmed that no other individuals were involved and that there were no additional injuries reported.
Baytown Police Chief John Stringer expressed his condolences regarding the incident, stating, “This is a tragic event that has profoundly affected those involved and our community. I commend our officers for their professionalism and their immediate efforts to provide life-saving measures under very challenging circumstances. We urge anyone facing domestic violence, emotional distress, or any crisis to seek help and utilize available resources before situations escalate. The safety and well-being of our community is our utmost priority. While this appears to be an isolated incident, our thoughts are with the families, friends, and loved ones affected by this tragedy as our investigators work to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this case.”
