Residents of Harris County are being warned about a troubling scam involving an impersonator posing as a deputy from the Harris County Precinct 4 Constables’ Office. A couple from the Houston area recently experienced this firsthand when a scammer contacted them, claiming that a missed grand jury appearance had resulted in a warrant for arrest.
Robert Weber reported that his wife, Carolyn, received a phone call on Friday morning from someone identifying himself as “Deputy Miller.” The caller asserted that Carolyn had failed to appear for a grand jury on April 1 and claimed that she had previously signed for a jury summons sent to their home in November 2025. He further insisted that her absence had led to a warrant being issued for her arrest.
The caller urged Carolyn to visit a Precinct 4 substation immediately to resolve the alleged issue. However, the couple began to feel uneasy about the situation. They informed the caller that Carolyn’s phone battery was dying and requested to call back, but he refused to allow that, insisting the conversation remained between him and Carolyn and instructing Robert to stay out of it.
This reaction heightened their suspicions, prompting them to reach out to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constables’ Office for verification. Officials confirmed that the call was indeed a scam, noting that while there is a deputy with the name the caller used, the badge number he provided was fabricated. Authorities emphasized that such matters are never handled over the phone.
Lt. Kenneth Massey of the Precinct 4 Constables’ Office reiterated that residents should be cautious. He stated that no one from the precinct would ever contact individuals to inform them of a warrant via phone. “You would find out at the point in time that you are stopped in traffic, or we show up at your house,” he explained, adding that they do not demand payment or threaten arrest through calls or messages.
In light of this experience, Robert Weber advises others to always verify information before taking any action, especially when faced with urgent or threatening situations. He encourages anyone receiving suspicious calls to hang up immediately and contact their local law enforcement for verification.
