In a vibrant celebration at Paradise Springs, four remarkable women, aged between 100 and 107, showcased the essence of longevity, personality, and humor. The event, themed around the 1920s, allowed these centenarians to reflect on their lives, share valuable insights, and demonstrate their integral role within the community.
Casey Domenech, the Executive Director of Paradise Springs, expressed pride in highlighting these extraordinary women. “We want to show them off; they are the spotlight of this community,” she remarked, emphasizing the joy and inspiration they bring to those around them.
Among the honorees was Cretora Biggerstaff, who at 107 years old, remains actively engaged with the world. “I keep up with everything,” she stated, underscoring the importance of staying informed, even if one does not always agree with the prevailing opinions.
Reflecting on the theme of longevity, 103-year-old Virginia Ferguson shared her simple philosophy for a long life: “Nothin’,” she said with a chuckle. She revealed that she never followed a diet, counted calories, or took pills, instead choosing to enjoy all her favorite foods.
Cretora also stressed the significance of staying busy and mentally engaged. “They should hire me for one of those talk shows,” she joked, confident in her ability to discuss any topic.
Casey Domenech expressed her heartfelt admiration for these women, stating, “To see these women that are a hundred plus, and they’re thriving, it melts my heart. It’s my purpose; it’s why I’m here for them.”
