A police chase culminated in a tragic accident on State Highway 146 near Bacliff, resulting in the closure of both northbound and southbound lanes between FM 646 and State Highway 96. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon and involved multiple vehicles.
Authorities reported that the crash included a sedan, which was being pursued by law enforcement, an SUV that overturned, and an industrial truck towing a trailer. Following the collision, the truck caught fire.
The suspect involved in the chase was declared dead at the scene, while three others were transported to hospitals for treatment—two to HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake and one to UTMB Galveston.
In light of the fatality, the Texas City Police Department has transferred the investigation to the Sheriff’s Office to ensure a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the crash.
As of now, State Highway 146 remains closed, and authorities anticipate that it will stay that way for an extended period. Drivers are advised to utilize State Highway 3 as an alternate route.
