One of Fort Worth’s premier venues, Dickies Arena, is set to undergo a name change following the decision of its current sponsor to withdraw from the partnership. The arena, which has a seating capacity of 14,000 and opened its doors in 2019, will soon be seeking a new naming rights partner.
During a recent podcast, Matt Homan, the President of Dickies Arena and Trail Drive Management Corp., revealed that Bluestar Alliance, the parent company of Dickies, has opted to step away from their sponsorship. This decision comes after Trail Drive Management Corp. sent a demand letter to Bluestar Alliance in April, requesting overdue payments related to the arena’s naming rights.
The Current Situation
Homan stated that the search for a new naming rights partner will commence in the upcoming months. Since its inception, Dickies has served as the naming partner for the arena, a partnership that was first announced in 2017. Notably, Billboard Magazine recently ranked Dickies Arena as the top venue in North America and the fifth best in the world.
On April 22, Trail Drive Management Corp. reached out to both Bluestar Alliance and VF Corporation, the previous owner of Dickies, regarding late payments that are contractually owed for the arena’s naming rights. The demand letters highlight that the current management is seeking to resolve these financial obligations.
Despite the ongoing discussions regarding naming rights, Trail Drive Management Corp. assured that these actions will not affect the arena’s operations, event bookings, or its financial stability. Interest from sponsors, entertainers, and patrons remains robust, indicating a healthy demand for the venue.
The Williamson family, instrumental in the establishment of the arena, has garnered immense respect within the Fort Worth community. Their legacy, which spans over a century, has significantly enriched civic and community life. In 2017, Williamson-Dickie partnered with the arena, with Chairman and CEO Philip Williamson envisioning a transformative entertainment experience for Fort Worth residents.
Looking ahead, Homan expressed optimism about finding a new naming rights partner that aligns with the arena’s vision and values. The upcoming months will be crucial as the arena seeks to establish a new partnership that reflects its commitment to the community.
