A malfunctioning elevator at a senior living facility in Tomball has led to significant frustration among residents and their families. The elevator has been out of service for nearly three weeks, creating challenges for elderly individuals with mobility issues.
Families are increasingly expressing their concerns regarding the situation at The Laurel at Vintage Park Apartments. Hope Malone reached out to highlight the difficulties faced by her 82-year-old mother, a resident of the complex. The absence of one of the building’s elevators has forced many residents to traverse long distances or use stairs to access the functioning elevator.
“It’s frustrating and unfortunate,” Malone stated. “It’s been 19 days since it’s been out now.” She mentioned that residents living at one end of the building are particularly affected, as they must walk down a lengthy corridor to reach the only operational elevator, a journey made more challenging by the lack of climate control.
Malone emphasized her mother’s physical difficulties, stating, “She has back problems and hip problems, and she has difficulty walking. She can sometimes go down the stairs, but she cannot go up.” The broken elevator has also hindered family visits, especially during the holiday season.
<p"The situation has taken an emotional toll," Malone added. "She’s in disbelief that it’s taking this long to have an elevator fixed, and it’s affecting her life." Malone herself has found it challenging to visit her mother, as she must climb three flights of stairs, which leaves her winded.
The family has been informed by apartment management that they are awaiting a replacement part from the elevator company. However, they remain perplexed by the length of the repair process.
Attempts to contact the apartment complex’s management for further clarification on the ongoing elevator issue have not yielded a response as of the latest update. Efforts will continue to monitor the situation, and updates will be provided if any information becomes available.
