Bill Elliott, the former athletic director and head football coach of Celina Independent School District (ISD), has voluntarily surrendered his teaching license amid an ongoing investigation by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) concerning a misconduct allegation dating back to the 1990s.
On March 20, Celina ISD announced that Elliott had relinquished his license as the TEA probes a complaint related to his tenure as a teacher at the district around 1995. While the investigation has concluded, with the agency indicating that a sanction was issued, the district clarified that Elliott’s decision does not imply an admission of guilt. Rather, he aims to avoid incurring legal expenses associated with any potential litigation stemming from the complaint.
In January 2026, Elliott’s retirement was announced while a criminal investigation was underway concerning his son, Caleb Elliott, who previously coached football at Moore Middle School. This investigation centered on serious allegations of child exploitation and child pornography against Caleb Elliott, prompting the school district to place Bill Elliott on paid leave since October.
The district stated that a third-party review found no evidence suggesting that Bill Elliott or any other employee had prior knowledge of his son’s alleged offenses. However, it was noted that he had significant influence over hiring practices during his tenure as athletic director.
