DALLAS, TEXAS – The FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour has made a stop in Dallas, generating significant excitement as the tournament approaches in less than 50 days. This weekend, local fans are seizing the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the coveted trophy, which is on display at AT&T Stadium.
The Trophy Tour is part of a worldwide initiative that spans several countries, celebrating the spirit of soccer and bringing fans together. Along with Dallas, cities like Austin, Houston, and San Antonio are also included in the tour, creating a buzz across the state.
As anticipation builds for the upcoming matches in North Texas, FOX 4 spoke with enthusiastic fans eager to witness the high-stakes competition that lies ahead. “I just want to see (Lionel) Messi and all the other great players from Spain,” said fan Amari Nair, expressing his excitement about seeing the trophy in person. “It’s pretty cool.”
For some attendees, this event marks a unique experience. “I think it’s amazing that everyone has the chance to compete for the World Cup,” remarked another fan. Meanwhile, others are relishing a long-awaited moment. “I attended the first World Cup in ’94 at the Cotton Bowl, and I’ve been waiting for this for 30 years. I’m excited, pumped up, and it’s about time,” shared Gilbert Aguilar.
The opportunity to see the trophy is also inspiring fans to share their enthusiasm with others. “Americans will finally understand what the World Cup is all about, joining the global excitement, patriotism, and camaraderie,” Aguilar added.
For many, viewing the trophy in person intensifies their desire for victory. “We won the World Cup four years ago,” stated an Argentina supporter. “I hope we can win it again.”
Dallas will play a significant role in the World Cup, with the stadium scheduled to host nine matches, including five pivotal group-stage games and two Round of 32 match-ups, along with a Round of 16 game. Notably, a semi-final match will also take place in Dallas, underscoring the city’s importance in the tournament.
The reigning world champion Argentina, featuring superstar Lionel Messi, is set to play twice in North Texas, while England is also expected to make an appearance in the region. The local organizing committee is currently working on plans for transportation, fan events, and stadium operations as preparations ramp up for what will be the largest World Cup ever, involving 48 teams and 104 matches across three countries.
