A former band teacher at Haltom High School has been arrested in connection with an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student. Joseph Nguyen, 23, was taken into custody on Wednesday and subsequently booked into the Tarrant County jail on charges related to the improper relationship between an educator and a student.
Nguyen, who served as a band director at Haltom High School, resigned from his position in April and has not been on campus since then. He was released from jail after posting a bond set at $7,500, according to court documents.
The Birdville Independent School District confirmed Nguyen’s resignation and addressed the situation in a letter to parents. In the communication, the district emphasized its commitment to the safety and well-being of students, stating that they acted promptly upon receiving notifications regarding the allegations. The district is collaborating closely with the Haltom City Police Department as the investigation unfolds.
While specific details of the case have not been disclosed, Birdville ISD has indicated that no misconduct reports have been filed on campus and that no other students have been identified as potential victims. The district refrained from providing further specifics due to federal privacy regulations.
Nguyen’s role extended beyond the classroom; he was also recognized as one of the directors for the Haltom High School Marching Band, as noted on the Birdville ISD Marching Festival website.
The investigation continues as authorities and the school district work to gather more information.
