HOUSTON – A Freeze Warning will take effect at midnight for a significant portion of Southeast Texas, marking the region’s first freeze of the season on Monday morning.
The weather on Sunday remained cool and overcast due to a cold front that moved through the area late Saturday night, bringing with it a few scattered showers. This cloud cover prevented temperatures from rising throughout the afternoon.
The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning for most of the FOX 26 viewing area, which will remain in place from midnight until 9 a.m. While northern counties have already experienced freezing temperatures this season and are not included in this warning, similar conditions are still anticipated. Coastal areas, however, are not expected to drop to 32 degrees.
Wind chills are expected to reach the 20s, so it’s advisable for residents to stay updated with the latest forecast on Fox Local and Fox26Houston.com regarding the impending freeze.
For those with sensitive plants, it may be wise to cover them to protect the P’s: People, Pipes, Pets, and Property. Historically, the first freeze of the year in this region typically occurs around December 8, making this year’s arrival slightly delayed.
Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to rebound by mid-week. Southerly winds will return on Wednesday, pushing temperatures back into the mid and possibly upper 70s by the end of next week. Long-range forecasts indicate that much of Texas may experience above-average temperatures as we approach the Christmas holiday.
