Man Faces Murder Charges in Connection with Fentanyl Overdose Death of 18 Year Old

A man has been charged with murder following an investigation into a fentanyl overdose incident that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old and the hospitalization of a 16-year-old. Avery Williams, aged 30, was arrested after authorities concluded a months-long inquiry into the distribution of the dangerous substance.

The investigation, led by the Harris County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Group 1, began in January 2026. According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, Williams allegedly supplied powdered fentanyl to a group of teenage boys. This led to the tragic death of Logan Ricks, 18, and caused a 16-year-old to overdose, although the younger individual survived after receiving medical treatment.

On Tuesday, law enforcement officials apprehended Williams and charged him with murder in connection with the fentanyl delivery.

Details regarding a potential bond for Williams remain unclear at this time.
