A 51-year-old man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison following his conviction for assault—family violence and possession of methamphetamine. The jury in Williamson County reached their verdict after examining evidence related to the case.
The case stems from an incident that occurred on February 11, 2025, in Cedar Park. Law enforcement officials responded to reports of a disturbance in the parking area of the Baylor Scott & White Emergency Medical Center. A hospital employee had observed a struggle, noting that one individual appeared to be choking another.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a vehicle parked behind a nearby La Quinta hotel. They spoke with a woman, Bustamante’s partner, who recounted a violent encounter. She stated that Bustamante had pushed her to the ground, choked her, and struck her with such force that she briefly lost her vision.
During the arrest, police discovered methamphetamine in Bustamante’s possession. Throughout the trial, the victim detailed a pattern of abuse over the past year, including threats to kill her with a knife and physical assaults with a cane. She also testified that he had threatened to take her son away from her.
Further evidence revealed that Bustamante had a significant criminal history, with nearly three decades of prior convictions. His record included multiple assault charges, one involving a different girlfriend, as well as convictions for theft, criminal mischief, burglary, evading arrest, and unauthorized use of motor vehicles. At the time of his latest arrest, Bustamante was on parole for a 20-year sentence and was also out on bond for several new charges, including vehicle burglary and identity fraud.
Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick commented on the case, stating, “This sentence reflects the severity of Mr. Bustamante’s repeated acts of violence and his continued disregard for the law. By holding him accountable for his history of abuse and criminal behavior, we are ensuring the safety of the victim and the public. I want to thank the Cedar Park Police Department for their swift response and the jury for their service in delivering justice.”
