Mother's Heartbreaking Journey: After Losing Baby Boy, Now Faces NICU Battle for Baby Girl at Texas Children's Hospital

A mother from New Caney is facing a harrowing journey after the loss of her baby boy at 26 weeks. Now, she finds herself in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Texas Children’s Hospital, where her baby girl, Remi, is fighting for her life.

Remi was born weighing just two pounds and one ounce. Although she is now six months old, her family remains uncertain about when she will be able to come home.

Crystal Holba’s Story

Crystal Holba has bravely chosen to share her story in hopes of reaching others who may have experienced similar tragedies. “I want other people to hear this,” she expresses. “Many have gone through this but haven’t shared their stories.”

The pain began in October 2024 when Crystal suffered the loss of her baby boy. “It was the worst feeling in the world,” she recalls. “It felt like a tightening in my stomach, the worst thing I ever felt.”

In February of this year, Crystal again faced heartbreak as she left the hospital empty-handed. Yet, despite the challenges, she finds strength in her daughter, Remi. “Seeing her fight so hard gives me that fight back,” Crystal says. “Because she’s so little and fighting, I have to fight for her.”

Crystal is permitted to hold Remi occasionally, cherishing every moment. Meanwhile, her seven-year-old son eagerly awaits the chance to cradle his baby sister.

Through this difficult ordeal, Crystal attributes her resilience to her faith. “These kids need me; she needs me,” she emphasizes. “If I’m not okay, she’s not going to be okay.”
