Police in Plano responded to an incident involving an officer-involved shooting at a gas station located near the border of Carrollton and Plano on Wednesday morning. Two suspects were apprehended at the scene, while one individual who sustained gunshot wounds will be taken into custody following their recovery at a hospital.
The situation unfolded around 4:30 a.m. at a RaceTrac gas station off International Parkway, close to East Hebron Parkway. According to Officer Jerry Minton, a spokesperson for the Plano Police Department, undercover detectives were monitoring a group of burglary suspects when they attempted to make contact with them as they entered the gas station parking lot.
During this encounter, at least one suspect opened fire, prompting the officers to return fire and strike one individual. This suspect was subsequently transported to the hospital for treatment. Another suspect was also hospitalized due to injuries unrelated to the shooting, and plans are in place to arrest them upon their release. The remaining two suspects in the vehicle were arrested at the scene. Fortunately, no officers or bystanders were injured during the exchange of gunfire.
Currently, the identities and medical conditions of the suspects have not been disclosed, and three of the four individuals involved are juveniles, meaning their names and photographs will remain confidential. The investigation into the specifics of the alleged burglary and potential charges against the suspects is ongoing.
The incident will be subject to dual investigations by the Carrollton and Plano police departments. Officer Minton stated, “The shooting investigation is being conducted by the Carrollton Police Department. We are conducting our own officer-involved shooting investigation, which is standard. We’ll follow the protocols and procedures that we have in place for officer-involved shootings.”
