In response to the recent U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, which reportedly resulted in the death of Iran’s supreme leader, protesters gathered in North Texas to express their views on the current regime.
The demonstration in Dallas highlighted a divide among Iranian Americans regarding the implications of U.S. military involvement. While some see the potential for a weakened regime, others express deep concerns about escalating conflict and the need for congressional oversight.
Hesami Homeirah, representing the Iranian-American Community of North Texas, articulated a longstanding desire for freedom and democracy among her people. “As long as the regime remains in power, terrorism, the nuclear program, and the missile program will persist. The ultimate solution lies in the Iranian people’s organized resistance to change the regime,” Homeirah stated.
The mood shifted with the announcement of the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other leaders in the strikes. “If this is true, we are very, very happy, as he has committed crimes against humanity,” she added, reflecting the sentiments of many who hope for further losses among Khamenei’s loyalists.
Protester Hannah Jan expressed optimism about the regime’s future. “I believe the entire regime will collapse because dictatorships rely on a single individual to maintain control. We hope for a free Iran,” she remarked.
However, not all attendees supported the U.S. actions. Lizbeth Martinez, another protester, voiced her opposition to military intervention, stating, “I love human rights, and I dislike the loss of life that comes from sending soldiers and instigating war.”
Some demonstrators argued that congressional approval should have been sought before engaging in military action. “This behavior is authoritarian; let’s call it what it is, and it’s frightening,” Martinez commented.
Another voice from the Iranian American community emphasized the need for internal change. “While we acknowledge the necessity of boots on the ground to overthrow this regime, that responsibility rests solely with the Iranian people, not outsiders,” Jan asserted.
President Donald Trump’s military actions are permissible under laws that allow him to conduct targeted operations without congressional approval, similar to the approaches taken by past administrations for counterterrorism efforts in the Middle East.
Looking ahead, uncertainty looms over the situation, but all demonstrators expressed a common wish for the well-being of the Iranian populace.
