Newly acquired Dallas Cowboys defensive end Rashan Gary addressed the media for the first time since his trade to the team. During the press conference, Gary expressed his eagerness to contribute to the Cowboys’ defense, stating that he is “bringing a dog” to the squad.
Reflecting on his journey, Gary revealed that his social media accounts were hacked prior to the start of NFL free agency, which led to false rumors about his departure from the Green Bay Packers. Although those rumors eventually materialized, Gary initially believed he would remain with the Packers for another season. He recounted receiving a call from his agent confirming the trade, emphasizing his excitement about this new opportunity.
“This is a great opportunity that I have in front of me. I just can’t wait to go to work,” Gary remarked during the conference.
Gary, who played under current Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker during his early years in Green Bay, expressed enthusiasm about reuniting with Parker. He highlighted the significance of their connection, tracing it back to when he was drafted and Parker was starting his coaching career.
“It’s kind of a full-circle moment,” he noted, acknowledging Parker’s growth into the role of defensive coordinator.
As the Cowboys look to enhance their run defense, Gary expressed confidence in his abilities. “In terms of running, man, I’m one of the best in the league,” he asserted. He is determined to be effective in his role, focusing on setting the edge and maintaining control on the field.
In addition to reuniting with Parker, Gary is excited to play alongside former Packers teammate Kenny Clark, who was traded to Dallas just before the previous season. “It’s gonna be a great time teaming back up with KC,” Gary stated, expressing his appreciation for the chance to collaborate with Clark again.
This new chapter in Gary’s career marks a significant transition as he aims to leave his mark on the Cowboys’ defense.
