Law enforcement officials have apprehended Alfredo Morones in relation to a series of burglaries at a skate shop in East Dallas. This arrest follows a string of break-ins that have left local business owners feeling vulnerable.
Morones, a known repeat offender, was captured on surveillance footage stealing cash from the register at the Rec Shop, a popular skate store in the area. His extensive criminal history, which dates back to 2003, played a significant role in his apprehension.
After breaking into the Rec Shop, Morones reportedly forced open a security gate and picked a lock, making off with approximately $1,000 in cash. He was taken into custody on Thursday and is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail without bond due to parole violations.
The owner of the Rec Shop, Ben Sharon, initially reported the break-in on November 17. A few weeks later, surveillance footage captured a man resembling Morones attempting to break into another business, Humble Simply Good Pies, located just a mile away. Although he was unsuccessful in entering, he managed to steal $40 worth of tools, resulting in several hundred dollars in damages to the restaurant’s lock.
Sharon expressed relief at Morones’ arrest, stating, “It’s definitely a lot of relief this guy’s off the streets.” He noted how officers recognized Morones from prior encounters, further reinforcing his reputation as a habitual offender.
While the details of Morones’ arrest location remain undisclosed, it has been suggested that he may have been homeless at the time. Sharon shared the news of Morones’ capture with fellow business owners, indicating a collective sense of celebration among them.
“Oh yeah, it’s a celebration. We’re gonna get together and have a little celebration drink,” Sharon said, emphasizing the importance of community support for small businesses during the holiday season. He encouraged locals to visit and shop at nearby establishments, now that the alleged burglar is in custody.
The investigation is still active, with Dallas police looking into potential connections between Morones and other burglaries in the vicinity. Local businesses hope this will bring a sense of security back to the neighborhood.
