The search is ongoing for a missing 10-year-old boy, Joshua Lahai, who was reportedly swept away by a large wave at Surfside Beach on Sunday. Multiple agencies are collaborating in the efforts to locate him.
On Sunday afternoon, around 5:30 PM, a youth football team from Richmond was at the beach near Ocean Avenue when the incident occurred. According to Texas EquuSearch, Lahai and another child were swimming approximately 150 yards offshore when a large wave struck. While one child managed to return to shore, Lahai did not resurface.
The Surfside Beach Police Department enlisted the help of the U.S. Coast Guard, which mobilized support from Air Station Houston and Air Station Corpus Christi. Texas EquuSearch is also actively involved in the search, emphasizing their commitment to bringing the boy back to his family. The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office has also joined the efforts, deploying drones equipped with thermal imaging, ATVs, helicopters, and other resources.
On Monday afternoon, officials indicated that they believed they had discovered clothing belonging to the boy, but he has yet to be found.
If anyone has information regarding the missing child, they are urged to contact the Surfside Beach Police Department at (979) 864-2392 or Texas EquuSearch at (281) 309-9500.
