Houston police have apprehended a second individual in connection with the tragic shooting of a 17-year-old boy that occurred last Sunday. Christopher Brandon Dominguez, aged 21, faces charges of capital murder and possession of a weapon by a felon. His arrest took place on Friday, executed by the Houston Police Department’s Special Response Team in conjunction with the Eastside Crime Suppression Team.
The incident transpired at approximately 1:20 a.m. on Sunday, September 27. Officers were dispatched to the scene following reports of a person down near the intersection of Mesa Drive and Everglade Drive, where they discovered the victim unconscious in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. The young man had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the shooting initially occurred in the parking lot of a nearby business. Authorities stated that the victim and the suspects had encountered each other there before an attempted robbery took place. During the confrontation, the victim was shot, leading him to attempt to flee the scene, but he ultimately collided with a pole on Mesa Drive.
Detectives were able to identify and track the suspect vehicle using surveillance footage and automatic license plate reader data. Diego Gene Torres, aged 18, was the first to be arrested in connection with the case. He was detained after the vehicle was located with assistance from the HPD’s Southeast Patrol Division and Patrol Support Team.
According to police, Torres confessed to his involvement in the shooting, prompting the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to accept capital murder charges against him.
