Four migrants were saved from a portable water tank located in the bed of a pickup truck in Texas, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The rescue operation required agents to use power tools to extract the individuals from the tank.
The incident unfolded when Border Patrol agents were conducting routine patrols along a rural highway in Eagle Pass and noticed a 2007 Ford pickup truck. Upon inspection, the agents discovered the four migrants trapped inside a small portable water tank. Thanks to their swift actions, the agents were able to free the individuals safely.
After being rescued, the migrants declined medical assistance and were subsequently taken to the Uvalde South Station for processing. The truck’s driver, a 19-year-old U.S. citizen, now faces charges related to alien smuggling.
Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Anthony Good commented on the situation, emphasizing the dangers posed by smugglers who treat individuals as mere cargo. He noted, “Putting people in confined spaces with no means of escape is dangerous and barbaric. If not for the actions of our highly trained agents, this incident could have resulted in tragedy.”
Details regarding the identity of the arrested driver have not been disclosed by Border Patrol.
