A man, Javian Major, who has faced repeated accusations of defrauding grieving families through an unlicensed funeral business, has been sentenced to two years in prison. This sentencing comes after Major violated his probation by continuing to work in the funeral industry, despite a court order prohibiting such actions.
Major has been the focus of several investigations and had previously pleaded guilty to forgery. Clients accused him of misappropriating life insurance funds, charging for services that were never rendered, and mishandling human remains. His probation was revoked when authorities found evidence of his ongoing involvement in the funeral sector, a clear breach of his sentencing conditions.
Victims of Major’s fraudulent activities expressed that the prison sentence feels inadequate. Many families are still grappling with unanswered questions related to missing ashes, improperly handled remains, and enduring financial losses that span several years.
Commenting on the situation, Andy Kahan from Houston Crime Stoppers acknowledged the extensive efforts put forth by various parties, including the probation department, to compile a report on Major’s violations. While he appreciated the two-year sentence as a step forward, he noted that it is regrettably the maximum penalty applicable in this case.
Victims like Pamela Busby shared their disappointment, stating that justice remains elusive for many affected individuals. She lamented that numerous victims from 2021 to 2026 have yet to receive proper justice, emphasizing the emotional toll of not having the correct ashes or any ashes at all. “It breaks my heart,” she added.
Looking ahead, Major is also on probation in Louisiana, which means that officials there may take further actions regarding his case.
