The Houston Fire Department (HFD) responded to a significant fire at an apartment complex in the Third Ward early Sunday morning. The building, which is still under construction, was the scene of a blaze that drew the attention of firefighters around 6 a.m.
Upon arrival at the intersection of McGowen and Napoleon Streets, firefighters discovered flames emerging from a vacant unit within the complex. They encountered difficulties accessing the site due to construction barriers, but despite these challenges, the crew managed to extinguish the fire.
Investigators from the Houston Fire Department suspect that the fire was ignited by squatters who had taken residence in the unoccupied apartment where the blaze originated. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries related to this incident.
