Thriving and Energized: Embrace Life to the Fullest

Trinity Pride Fest, set to take place on June 27 in South Main Village, is gearing up for its largest event yet, despite concerns about the influx of visitors from Argentina during the World Cup. Last year’s festival attracted over 7,000 attendees, marking a significant milestone for the event.

Roger Calderon, President of Trinity Pride Fest, expressed confidence in the safety measures being implemented in partnership with the Fort Worth Police Department and the City of Fort Worth. “We’ve had productive conversations with the Fort Worth Police Department and other city partners regarding Pride Fest,” he stated, reassuring attendees that their safety is a top priority.

With the World Cup coinciding with this year’s festival, there was awareness of potential tensions, given Argentina’s current political climate towards the LGBTQIA+ community. Following the election of President Javier Milei in 2023, the situation for queer individuals in Argentina has deteriorated, with a reported 70% increase in hate crimes and a rollback of LGBTQIA+ rights.

Calderon noted that while the board is conscious of the World Cup schedule, the planning for Pride Fest is primarily motivated by the event’s growth. “Our planning has been driven primarily by the continued growth of Trinity Pride Fest,” he explained, highlighting the expansion of the Pride Market and an increased lineup of entertainment and community participation.

In preparation for this anticipated increase in attendance, Calderon emphasized the importance of collaboration with local law enforcement and emergency management to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants. “We’re excited to showcase the incredible energy of South Main Street and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community alongside thousands of attendees from across Fort Worth and North Texas,” he added.

The Fort Worth Police Department has confirmed their commitment to maintaining safety during the event, stating they will provide active patrolling and an on-site presence. However, for security reasons, they have not disclosed specific operational details regarding their approach to the festival.
