In a tragic incident, an off-duty reserve deputy constable lost her life in a collision with an 18-wheeler in Winnie, Texas. The Jefferson County Pct. 1 Constable’s Office has confirmed the passing of Reserve Deputy Heather Avery, who was engaged in traffic control on I-10 when the accident occurred.
Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne reported that the crash took place in the eastbound lanes of I-10 East, near Highway 124. Deputy Avery was fulfilling her duties to manage traffic when the unfortunate event unfolded.
The Jefferson County Pct. 1 Constable’s Office expressed their sorrow in a social media announcement, stating, “We are heartbroken by the tragic events of this morning that claimed the life of Reserve Deputy Heather Avery. Deputy Avery was a shining example of what is good in law enforcement and was a proud member of our department.” Constable Pollard conveyed condolences to Deputy Avery’s family and all those who were fortunate enough to know and love her. Further arrangements are yet to be determined.
