Authorities in Harris County are investigating the tragic death of a 5-year-old child who was discovered unresponsive in a community pool located in northwest Harris County. The incident occurred at the intersection of Wortham Center Drive and Wortham Boulevard, prompting a response from local law enforcement and emergency services.
Upon their arrival, emergency medical personnel were already administering CPR to the child, who was later transported to a hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
Reports indicate that at least 30 individuals were present at the pool when the incident took place. While many witnesses left the scene before authorities arrived, investigators have managed to identify these individuals and plan to conduct interviews with them.
Initial findings suggest that the child was at the pool with his mother and aunt. At some point, while playing, the child went underwater. Another pool-goer discovered him unresponsive and alerted others to the situation, leading to his rescue.
Authorities are currently seeking surveillance footage from the apartment complex to establish a clearer timeline of the events leading up to the incident and to determine how long the child may have been submerged.
As the investigation continues, officials are urging anyone who may have been at the pool during the time of the incident to reach out to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit with any relevant information.
