As Spain and France faced off in Arlington, enthusiastic soccer fans once again flocked to Sundance Square for the concluding Texas match of the World Cup.
The vibrant atmosphere in Sundance Square featured four large viewing screens, alongside food trucks and various vendors, creating an engaging scene downtown during the final Texas match of the tournament. The contest between Spain and France was just one of 101 matches streamed for free in this popular venue throughout the World Cup.
“I’m grateful for Sundance Square providing a space for fans to come together and watch the games,” expressed Fort Worth resident Alex Juarez. “I have been here for Mexico games, Colombia games, Spain games, and Argentina games, and it has been amazing to watch people come and enjoy their country play. It has probably been one of the best experiences ever.”
With ticket prices for the World Cup often out of reach for many fans, free watch parties like the one at Sundance Square have been essential for those wishing to partake in the excitement of the tournament taking place across North America this summer.
“I think with the World Cup being in the U.S., it has shaped a lot of Americans to like soccer more,” noted Dallas resident Vito Jovanovic. “This is a positive development, as this country typically favors other sports. Soccer is the most global sport, and bringing it to America is just a beautiful thing.”
During the semifinal match between Spain and France, the area was alive with a kaleidoscope of colors representing various nations. Fans cheered passionately as the game progressed, while attendees engaged in tossing soccer balls, playing cards, singing, and capturing memories through photographs. Meanwhile, younger fans enjoyed playing in the Sundance Square Plaza Jetted Fountain amidst the match.
Juarez added, “Soccer is very unifying. It has been amazing to see people from different countries come together over a shared passion for soccer. I’m sad the World Cup is coming to an end, but honestly, this has been the best summer of my life, and I know there will be more watch parties here at Sundance Square for the final.”
Sundance Square is set to host the screening of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final on Sunday, July 19, at 2 p.m. The event will feature food trucks and vendors, along with ample seating for attendees.
