Wrong Way Driver Causes Multi Vehicle Crash on FM 2920 in Tomball

Authorities in Harris County shut down FM-2920 in Tomball on Thursday night following a dramatic incident involving a wrong-way driver who collided with multiple vehicles.

At approximately 7:50 p.m., Captain Wilson of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office District 6 reported receiving numerous calls regarding a Dodge Ram 1500 that was recklessly driving eastbound on FM-2920 and Mueschke Road, just north of Highway 99. Witnesses indicated that the driver was operating the vehicle in the wrong lane, endangering others by forcing them off the road and weaving across multiple lanes.

A deputy located the errant vehicle at a Valero gas station situated at the intersection of FM-2920 and Kobs Road. When the deputy activated their lights and sirens in an attempt to pull the driver over, the suspect maneuvered around the gas station, refusing to stop. The driver then re-entered FM-2920, heading west and leading law enforcement on a brief chase that lasted less than two minutes.

According to Captain Wilson, the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed as it approached the intersection of Cypress Rose Hill, ultimately veering into a ditch and losing control. The driver then crossed into the intersection, colliding with six other vehicles that were either stationary or traveling eastbound.

The 53-year-old suspect was apprehended and transported to a hospital, with authorities suspecting he was under the influence of substances. He may face charges for evading arrest and driving while intoxicated (DWI).

In addition to the suspect, five individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were also taken to nearby hospitals. Fortunately, no deputies were hurt during the incident.
