The Houston Police Department has made public body camera and dash camera footage from a fatal police shooting that occurred on March 25 in southwest Houston, specifically on Glenmont Drive. The footage shows a confrontation between Officer C. Lopez and the suspect, Bara’Atef Mohammad AlQudah, who was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene. Due to the graphic content, only selected portions of the video have been shared, while the complete footage is accessible on the Houston Police Department’s YouTube channel.
The incident unfolded around 4 p.m. when authorities received a report about a man behaving suspiciously while walking westbound on Glenmont Drive. The caller alerted the police that the individual was carrying a pink purse and a black handgun, which he reportedly placed inside the purse.
Officer C. Lopez, who had been serving as an officer since January 2025, was dispatched to the scene within two minutes and arrived shortly thereafter. Upon his arrival, he observed AlQudah walking with the pink purse and instructed him multiple times to drop it.
According to police reports, AlQudah disregarded the commands, reached into the purse, and brandished a handgun. In response, Officer Lopez drew his weapon and a shootout ensued between the two. During the exchange, both parties fired several rounds, with Officer Lopez taking cover behind his patrol vehicle as the situation escalated.
AlQudah fled into a nearby apartment complex, prompting Officer Lopez to pursue him, during which more shots were exchanged. Authorities confirmed that AlQudah was struck multiple times, while Officer Lopez sustained a graze wound to the right side of his abdomen; however, his injuries were not life-threatening.
Following the incident, Officer Lopez attempted to administer first aid to AlQudah, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol vehicle occupied by Officer Lopez was also reported to have been struck during the gunfire exchange.
As with standard protocol, Officer Lopez has been placed on administrative duty pending the conclusion of the investigation into the incident.
