A significant grass fire in southwestern Dallas escalated into a four-alarm incident on Sunday afternoon, spreading to a nearby residence and igniting piles of tires and junk, resulting in a substantial plume of smoke that could be seen for miles.
The fire was first reported around 4:45 p.m. in the 4500 block of Barstow Boulevard. Initially described as a small grass fire, it quickly intensified, raising concerns about its potential impact on the surrounding community, according to the Dallas Fire Department.
The flames rapidly engulfed a nearby house and ignited various discarded materials, including gutted cars and trailers, all stored behind the residence. The resulting smoke created a thick haze over the area, prompting attention from local residents.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries or evacuations related to the incident.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are currently underway, as firefighters continue to battle the blaze, particularly the challenging task of extinguishing the piles of tires.
