A 17-year-old has been charged following a shooting incident in New Caney, Texas, which unfolded on Saturday. The suspect has reportedly surrendered to law enforcement and is now in custody, with an ICE detainer issued against him.
The shooting involved a confrontation between the suspect and another 17-year-old, who was injured but not critically. The injured teen has also been charged in connection with the incident.
The Incident
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reported that the events began around 4:20 p.m. at a residence near Nottingham Road, in close proximity to Cambridge and Galaxy Boulevards. The injured teenager was transported to a hospital for treatment and has since been released.
Approximately one hour after the initial incident, the suspect surrendered to police and received treatment for minor injuries sustained during the altercation. Although several witnesses believed they were shot at, no additional injuries were reported.
Charges Filed
On Sunday, the sheriff’s office confirmed the arrest of 60-year-old Juan Ayala-Montero, who has been charged with Felony Deadly Conduct for discharging a firearm. His bond has been set at $80,000. Authorities noted that Ayala has previously been deported from the United States and is currently subject to a Federal ICE detainer.
The 17-year-old victim has been charged with providing a false report to law enforcement, which reportedly obstructed the investigation.

According to officials, the shooting stemmed from a dispute between Ayala and the 17-year-old. Following their altercation, Ayala is alleged to have pointed his firearm at other individuals in the neighborhood and discharged multiple rounds in various directions. Witnesses attempted to intervene and de-escalate the situation, but Ayala continued to fire.
Authorities discovered a total of 31 fired shell casings at the scene. The sheriff’s office also released video footage showing Ayala pointing his firearm at an individual before shooting, although that person was unharmed.
