The Grand Prairie Police Department has confirmed the arrest of a teacher from Arnold Middle School on charges related to the alleged grooming of a student. Kelvin Leiva was taken into custody on January 8, 2026, at his home, facing third-degree felony charges.
Following an anonymous report of inappropriate communication with a student, Leiva was placed on administrative leave on October 23, 2025. Since that time, he has not returned to the school premises.
In a letter addressed to parents, Arnold Middle School principal Dexter Dixon assured the community of the school’s commitment to student safety. He stated that the situation had been taken seriously, leading to the police investigation initiated the day after Leiva was placed on leave. The principal expressed gratitude for the support and concern shown by parents during this challenging time.
Dixon’s letter detailed the circumstances surrounding the arrest, emphasizing the school’s ongoing dedication to the well-being of its students. The principal reiterated that the school administration is cooperating fully with law enforcement as the investigation continues.
